How much does a CCTV system cost in Saudi Arabia? What really sets the price
There is no single price for a camera system, but seven factors decide 90% of the cost. Know them before you ask for a quote and you will understand why offers differ threefold between suppliers.
The seven factors behind the cost of a camera system
- Number and type of cameras. A fixed indoor camera costs far less than a 4K outdoor camera with optical zoom, a PTZ or a plate-reading camera. The right count comes from the task, not the budget: what must be seen at each point?
- Resolution and night vision. Going from 2 to 4 MP costs little; 4K with colour night vision raises both camera and storage cost.
- Cabling. On many projects the cables, conduits, trays and labour cost more than the cameras. An occupied building with closed ceilings costs more than one under construction, and long distances need fibre or wireless links.
- Recording and storage. Channel count, retention days and disk type. Thirty days for sixteen 4 MP cameras needs roughly 12 to 16 TB of surveillance disks.
- Network and power. PoE switches, a UPS that keeps the system alive through outages, and a tidy, ventilated rack.
- Analytics and integration. Person and vehicle classification, plate reading, links to access control, intercom or the hotel system, and a monitoring room with a video wall.
- Design, documentation and maintenance. Site survey, coverage plan, specifications, as-built drawings and training at handover, then a preventive maintenance contract. This is what separates a contractor from a shop.
Three rough tiers to set expectations
The figures below are general market indications for Saudi Arabia in riyals, including supply, installation and cabling on a typical site; they change with specifications and the building's condition. They are not a quotation.
| Site | Usual system | Rough range |
|---|---|---|
| Villa or small shop | 4 to 8 IP cameras at 4 MP, an NVR with PoE ports, 30 days, phone app | A few thousand to about SAR 15,000 |
| Commercial building or warehouse | 16 to 48 mixed cameras (dome, bullet, plates), recorders, network rack and UPS, conduit and tray cabling | Tens of thousands to about SAR 150,000 |
| Hotel, hospital or compound | Over 64 cameras, recording servers or a video management system (VMS), analytics, monitoring room, integration with other systems | Hundreds of thousands and up, set by the design |
Why the cheap offer costs more later
An offer at half the price usually means cameras with the wrong lens that never show faces, poor cable that drops the picture after the first summer, a recorder with no room to grow, or no documentation and no maintenance. The difference between "a camera that records" and "a camera that identifies a person at the door" is pixel-density design, explained in a separate article.
How to cut cost without losing quality
- Write down each camera's purpose; some points need a simpler camera and some need two.
- Cable during fit-out if the building is under construction; it saves more than half the installation cost.
- Ask for vendor-neutral specifications, then compare offers on the same basis rather than the lowest number.
- Plan for growth with switches and a recorder with 25% spare rather than replacing them a year later.
- Take a preventive maintenance contract instead of repair on failure; it is cheaper over time.
The fastest way to a number for your site: place the cameras yourself in the design tool for an instant bill of quantities, then request a priced quote, or book a survey and our engineer sets the specification on site.
Frequently asked questions about prices
How much does installing one camera cost?
Installation alone at a point with existing cabling is modest, but cabling from scratch with conduit, cable and switch raises it a lot. That is why we price the system, not the camera.
Do you give prices over the phone without a survey?
We give a rough range from your description and the design tool; a binding offer follows a site survey because cabling sets most of the cost.
Which is cheaper, wireless or wired cameras?
Wireless is cheaper to install, dearer to run and less stable. Where cabling is possible, wired (PoE) is cheaper over the life of the system.
Do prices include maintenance?
The installation offer includes warranty and an initial support period. Preventive maintenance is a separate contract priced by camera count, visits and response time.
Do you sell cameras without installation?
No. We are a design, installation and maintenance company and do not sell equipment at retail.
